Take a farm tour of Shamarra Alpaca Farm, just an hours drive from Central Christchurch on the Banks Peninsula. The farm is home to over 170 Alpacas, each of them friendly, full of personality, and, especially with the stunning backdrop behind them, seriously photogenic! Tour the grounds & hear about these cute & interesting creatures, then head into the farm shop to see some of the stunning NZ made Alpaca knitwear available! This experience is fun, educational & full of insta-worthy photo ops!

Join a knowledgeable and engaging guides on easy, gently graded walking tracks. They’ll help you spot North Island robins, tomtits, kākā, tūī, bellbirds, hihi, tieke, fantails, kererū and wētā. They’ll introduce you to some of our local plants and trees and share stories about the history of this ambitious conservation project.

You’ll learn about the translocation programs that recently introduced kōkako and rifleman to a forest where they can thrive. Sanctuary Mountain® is now home to an estimated population of over 1000 kiwi.

This leisurely paced tour takes place in striking pest-free native forest dominated by towering tawa, rewarewa, pukatea, rimu and a wide variety of characteristic ferns. You will stand at the foot of a mature northern rata in the heart of the sanctuary and see the coalesced mass of roots that form the trunks of these magnificent trees.

You’ll listen to the birdsong, take in the majesty of our indigenous forest and try to spot the numerous bird species that call the maunga their home. Spend time in the clearing where cheeky New Zealand forest parrots – the kākā – like to hang out then take an optional walk up the viewing tower for a unique perspective of the forest canopy from above.

These tours are generally with small groups. At the end of your tour, your guide can provide you with ideas of where in the forest to explore next, depending on your interests, or you may want to wander back for a cuppa at the Visitors Centre or bring your own snacks to sit and contemplate the beautiful ngahere.

This experience gives you & a friend access to the Knights of the Sky’ and the Dangerous Skies’ exhibits at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Center. Knights of the Sky features Sir Peter Jackson’s collection of WW1 aircraft and artefacts, and in true Peter Jackson fashion, thousands of hours have gone into the displays around each aircraft, many of which depict events that took place during the war. Dangerous Skies is a display of WW2 craft, with some infamous warbirds on display, again in cinematic quality scenes, including an impression Lockheed Hudson plane accurately recreated to appear crashed in the depths of a jungle, as the plane was during the war! This is an incredible experience for Aviation Buffs and non Buffs alike!

Head to Cable Bay Adventure Park near Nelson with the family & enjoy a ride on the farm on an all-terrain, Eight wheel drive Argo Vehicle. Choose between a thrilling ride around the farm and through rivers or something a bit more leisurely. This is the most fun you can have in a rain coat!
