About Rakiura Tokoeka/Southern Brown Kiwi
The Rakiura Tokoeka is found on Stewart Island. They stand approximately 40cm tall, weigh 4kg and their beak is 18-20cm long. Stewart Island tokoeka are stocky round birds and one of the largest variants of the Southern brown kiwi, with females reaching weights of over 4kg. Tokoeka means "weka with a walking stick" which references their long beak.
Important information
A reasonable level of fitness is required (total walking time approximately 2 hours depending on kiwi behaviour). The walking track can be uneven and muddy at times, therefore please ensure you wear adequate footwear and are dressed for warmth including a wind and waterproof jacket. On occasions we may need to cancel a trip due to weather - please ensure that you provide contact information, so that we can keep you updated.
This experience aims to discover wild kiwis in their natural habitat. While you have a higher chance of finding them with our expert staff, wild animals are unpredictable, and there is no 100% guarantee kiwis will appear. Their rareness, their wild nature, and the thrill of searching are what makes the experience special and enjoyable, so we cannot offer refunds if there is no sighting.

We think everyone should jump out of a plane at least once in their lives. It's hard to describe the feeling, but you can imagine it, hanging out the side of a plane, attached to a highly experienced instructor and then simply falling away from the plane at up to 200kph. A truly bucket list experience.
It takes a certain kind of person to jump from an aircraft at 15,000ft into thin air. It takes courage.
Expect sensory overload as your mind, body and soul fight against every natural self-preserving urge. The challenge is immense. Harnessed by space age materials to a qualified Jumpmaster, you step out of that aircraft door and for up to 60 seconds freefall at 200 kph - terminal velocity!
After a 15 minute scenic flight to altitude, you will nudge towards the edge of the plane before being thrown out! Keep your head up, smile at your skydive photographer and take in the stunning surroundings. After an exhilarating freefall, you will experience a 4-5 minute parachute ride, floating safely back down to the skydive drop zone.

Your trip to the Te Anau Glowworm Caves begins with a cruise to the western shores of Lake Te Anau on one of our purpose-built scenic cruise vessels.
At the entry to the caves at Cavern House, view the informative displays and learn about this geological wonder before you join your guide underground. On the tour of the caves, our friendly guides will point out the highlights and share their knowledge of the caves and its history.

The result is a twisting network of limestone passages filled with sculpted rock, whirlpools and a roaring underground waterfall.
Deep inside the caves, beyond the roar of the water, you will be taken by small boat into a silent hidden grotto inhabited by hundreds of glowworms, unique to New Zealand. In the subterranean darkness, they produce a glittering display that is nothing short of extraordinary.

Hill Country Horse Trekking *Uncategorized*
$499 NZD
For those with some horse riding experience this is a experience combining natural horsemanship and freestyle riding in the hill country of the central North Island
Click to find out more Experience Provider: River Valley Ventures
Note: This experience is not suitable for first time riders:
As a guide this is the level of riding expected:
Beginner – reasonably confident riding a horse at a walk, a rising trot, and learning to canter.
Intermediate – confident and in control on a moving horse at all paces outside an arena, but not riding regularly.
Harmony With Horses experience is a half-day horse riding adventure; combining an inspirational natural horsemanship session and a freestyle ride over picturesque Rangitikei hill country.
You will start with building a trusting relationship between you and your horse. Even if horses have been a part of your life forever, you will be introduced to a horse you will have just met, and they will have just met you, so this process is valuable.
You begin with getting to know your horse this way. It is an excellent way to get some feedback from your horse and you get to know their personality before jumping on. This part of the trip really starts to get you thinking!
When you and your horse are communicating what you ask, it’s time for a trek through the beautiful countryside around River Valley. Here you will have the opportunity to build on your relationship while riding over the hills, taking in the spectacular scenery, and if you are hot to trot then you could be cantering through the fields.
Natural Horsemanship is about the partnership between horse and human. At River Valley Stables, our guides have spent time building this connection with the horses and working with them in a way that makes our horses feel good about their work. It is this connection between you and your horse that makes River Valley Stables unique.
Freestyle Riding is a centred style of riding. It is not English or Western but has many similarities to both these disciplines. Riding freestyle encourages you to connect with your horse through focus, feel, balance and timing. It’s an incredible feeling when you have that communication together.

Rotorua Canopy Tours
TripAdvisor declared Rotorua Canopy Tour's Ultimate Experience the 11th best experience in the world in 2021. That's pretty high praise.
You need to allow yourself 3 and a half hours to experience this activity which is surprisingly suitable for almost everyone.
After meeting at their base on the outskirts of Rotorua where you meet you guides who ooze professionalism and fun times you'll be transported up to a magical forest that appears to have been lost in time. You'll immediately be struck with how you feel as you are transported to another world full of amazing trees, ferns, smells and noise.
Perhaps the most impressive feat by the team at Canopy Tours is over the past 10 years they have removed all the possums and rats from this once unloved and forgotten slice of New Zealand forest and restored it to a pest free environment - so much so that you can spot many bird species and in an amazing highlight of the expereince, even handfeed wild robins.
The experience consists of 6 ziplines for a total of 1.2 kilometres. They vary from shooting you through tight gaps in the forest layer to giant swooping flights through deep forested valleys. There is even a 400 metre tandem line so you can race you partner....but this tour is so much more than an adreneline rush.
In addition there are a number of suspended bridges that span wide valleys, floating staircases and one of the highlights - the 50 metre high cliff walk - that appears seemingly out of no where as you arrive perched high on it after a zipline flight out of the forest canopy.
It's a truly special experience, suitable for anyone with a okay level of fitness. It operates in all weather but does suspend operations when high winds exist.

You can choose to ride solo or take a friend or two along with you to share the hilarity.

Abseil 100m into the surreal Lost World. Descend slowly, suspended in the massive void. Mist-filtered light gives unreal qualities to the strange plants and formations. Then embark on an underworld trek and climb back through the majestic dry passages of the Mangapu cave system.
The abseil (rappel) descent takes around 20 minutes of the total 4 hours required.
Abseil slowly alongside your instructor who although on a separate rope provides information, reassurance ...and a backup safety tether.
Imagine free-hanging in this massive void…bouncing a bit & turning because of the sheer length of the rope. Look around into upper levels of the cave and giant spagatites (look like giant green hands growing out of the walls). Weird plants struggle to cling to the sheer walls and all the while the roar of the Mangapu river echoes up from caverns far below.
It feels like you’re descending into the bowels of some gigantic prehistoric beast…a sensory feast.

This is the most popular dolphin watching cruise in the Bay of Islands, and for good reason! Board your cruise in Paihia or Russell and take in the stunning views as we glide out through the islands and along the Rakaumangamanga Peninsula to Cape Brett, where a historic lighthouse keeps watch over Piercy Island/Motukōkako, or as it is popularly known the ‘Hole in the Rock’.
According to Māori legend, local warriors used to paddle through the Hole in the Rock in their canoes before departing for battle. Drops of water from the cave roof above were a good omen. If conditions permit, your skipper will expertly guide the ship through the narrow space... and if you get dripped on, consider yourself lucky!
Keep an eye out for dolphins, whales and other marine life during your cruise, and have your camera ready as we get you up close to the action. Our purpose-built catamaran is licensed by the Department of Conservation for dolphin viewing and our crew have years of experience locating dolphins in these waters. Please note that during our morning cruise we are permitted to interact with common dolphins only.
Cruises include an island stopover at Otehei Bay on Urupukapuka Island. Stroll along the white sand beach, or walk to the top of the hill for scenic views over the entire Bay of Islands. On our morning cruise you can choose our free island extension – stay longer, explore the island’s walking trails and beautiful beaches, and return with us in the afternoon.

The group lesson starts at Ngarunui Beach car park, 5 minutes outside Raglan. Raglan Surf School chose to have a maximum ratio of 6 students to 1 instructor, this means they’re able to offer you plenty of personalised tips.
First, you’ll learn the basics of surfing and surfboard vocabulary, stance, posture and a proper dose of water and beach safety.
You’ll be fully prepared before you hit the surf! You’ll get custom fitted for a wetsuit and surfboard at the iconic Red fire-truck and wooden trailer, located at Ngarunui Beach car park.
After a quick regroup on the sand you’ll have your instructor right there beside you in the surf ready to help you choose your waves, help line your board up and even push you into waves. The goal is to have you paddling into waves yourself by the end of the lesson.
Why is this Chuffed Worthy?
