Experience Provider: Abel Tasman Canyons and Abel Tasman Sailing Adventures

You're in for two absolutely unforgettable days around Abel Tasman with these two activities - a mind-blowing canyoning adventure in the Kahurangi National Park and a sailing adventure seeing all the highlights of the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park.

Blue Creek Canyoning Adventure

Not keen on getting too wet but love abseiling?

Apart from a couple of waist-deep pools Blue Creek is a dry canyoning trip. This stunning Kahurangi canyon is deep and narrow as it was carved into a softer type of rock over many years. In some places you can touch both walls at the same time and if you look up you’ll only see a sliver of daylight. It really feels like you’re getting absorbed by the earth. If you ask your guides nicely they might even try to keep your feet dry on this one. By the end of this trip, you’ll be an abseiling pro!

Location: Kahurangi National Park

What is Canyoning?

Canyoning is one of the newer Abel Tasman activities. It is a combination of lots of fun stuff all bunched into one exciting activity. Trips normally start with a walk through beautiful scenery. Then it’s time to get the rubber suits on and start making your way down the canyon. We jump off cliffs into deep pools below, slide down water polished chutes and abseil besides or sometimes even through showering waterfalls. Most of the time you’ll be surrounded by steep walls covered in moss and ferns. And of course your guides will make sure you know exactly what to do. Going on a trip is the only way anyone can get to see these stunning places and experience all the fun stuff Mother Nature throws at you.

Full Day Sail in the Abel Tasman National Park

Either chill out and relax, get involved in the sailing or learn as you go - you decide! Experience some great sailing, enjoy some stunning beaches and islands, with a full hour to enjoy your lunch and relax on Anchorage Beach. Ultimate Zipline Experience

TripAdvisor declared Rotorua Canopy Tour's Ultimate Experience the 11th best experience in the WORLD in 2021. That's pretty high praise!

You need to allow yourself 3.5 hours to experience this activity which is surprisingly suitable for almost everyone.

After meeting at their base on the outskirts of Rotorua where you meet you guides who ooze professionalism and fun times, you'll be transported up to a magical forest that appears to have been lost in time. You'll immediately be struck with how you feel as you are transported to another world full of amazing trees, ferns, smells and noise.

Perhaps the most impressive feat by the team at Canopy Tours is over the past 10 years they have removed all the possums and rats from this once unloved and forgotten slice of New Zealand forest and restored it to a pest free environment - so much so that you can spot many bird species and in an amazing highlight of the expereince, even handfeed wild robins.

The experience consists of 6 ziplines for a total of 1.2 kilometres. They vary from shooting you through tight gaps in the forest layer to giant swooping flights through deep forested valleys. There is even a 400 metre tandem line so you can race you partner....but this tour is so much more than an adreneline rush.

In addition there are a number of suspended bridges that span wide valleys, floating staircases and one of the highlights - the 50 metre high cliff walk - that appears seemingly out of no where as you arrive perched high on it after a zipline flight out of the forest canopy.

It's a truly special experience, suitable for anyone with a okay level of fitness. It operates in all weather but does suspend operations when high winds exist.

You will never forget these two amazing Northland adventures - an epic day out at the Poor Knights Islands and a breathtaking scenic Helicopter ride to the Hole in the Rock with incredible views of the Bay of Islands.

The perfect day of cruising, snorkeling, watersports & lunch at Poor Knights Islands!

An epic day awaits you at the world famous Poor Knights Islands marine reserve!

On the ride over, one of the crew will have a chat with you about your experience level and how they can tailor the day to suit you. The snorkeling at the Knights is simply fantastic and don’t feel like you will see less than the divers, because, oh my goodness, that is simply not true!

The life in the top 5 meter's is probably the most prolific, and the light makes it the most colorful area. The kayaks are yours to use for the day, and the bottom is often seen from the surface.
The crew will anchor up and serve lunch and stay in one spot for about two and a half hours. Here you can bomb off the boat, try kayaking and SUP, go snorkeling, have lunch, grab a hot shower, jump back in the crystal waters, and eat some more!! The time is yours, the crew are there to help you enjoy the time in this magical place.

Worried about the water? Can't swim as well as you would like? There are life jackets, reef boards, noodles, and flotation devices - as well as a camera that screens the fish action from below. You don't have to get wet to see the fish! There is an onboard photographer, so jump in front of the lens if you want to capture some memories. The photos are yours for free.

At about 2.30pm, you up anchor, and start a tour of the Islands, including the World’s largest sea cave, huge arches, and majestic cliffs. The knowledgeable and passionate crew will tell you stories and educate you about the Islands as we travel. There is a tragic Maori history that unfolds around you, the dramatic cliffs and breath-taking scenery lend itself to the tale, and the birdlife is unique to the Island. Granted full marine reserve status and being a nature reserve as well, the islands are well protected and very special. Giant weta, 1000 tuatara, 2.5 million Buller shearwater birds, dolphins, gannet colonies, whales, sting rays, teeming schools of fish.....an awesome and unforgettable experience!

There is plenty of time to use the kayaks provided, to go for a snorkel, and to relax in the sun and eat your yummy buffet lunch. Then you are headed for home and back inside the harbor at around 4pm.

Then you are headed for home and back inside the harbor at around 4pm

Canopy Tours:

Polynesian Spa:

This is a full blown relaxation package at the Lakefront Polynesian Spa in Rotorua.

This gift experience includes:

  • 60 minute Aromatherapy Massage - This relaxing full body aromatherapy massage uses gentle rhythmic strokes focusing on the nervous and lymphatic systems, helping to slow a busy mind and unwind tension. Choice of six aromatherapy oil blends to: relax, de-stress or revive
  • Lunch with wine or juice from Polynesian Spa's 88RA Cafe
  • Private soak in a private lakefront hot pool

All therapies include a soak in the Deluxe Lake Spa mineral pools beforehand to warm up the muscles, soften the skin and relax the mind.

To make the most of an indulgent retreat experience we recommend you allow at least three hours at Polynesian Spa to enjoy a hot mineral soak, your therapy and the relaxation lounge.

Experience Provider: Whale Watch Kaikoura & Hapuku Kitchen

Do both in a day, or make an entire weekend out of your Chuffed Gift, with these two incredible Kaikoura Experiences!

Whale Watch:

Whale Watch is New Zealand's only vessel based whale watching company offering an exciting up-close encounter with the world's largest toothed predator the Giant Sperm Whale. See the whales in their natural environment at all times of the year, boasting a 95% success rate!

The main focus of your tour is to locate and view the Giant Sperm Whale. Whale Watch average between 1 to 2 whale sightings per tour due to the length of time the whales can stay submerged. The whales form loose pods, keeping several miles between each other, so viewing any more than 1 to 2 whales per trip is a real bonus.

Around 80% of the world’s whale and dolphin species migrate past our coastline so at any given time there is the opportunity for other species of marine mammals to be sighted such as Blue, Fin, Sei, Humpback, Minke, Pilot, Orca and Southern Right Whales, Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Southern Right Whale Dolphins, Elephant Seals and Leopard Seals.

Depending on the amount of time available after viewing the Sperm Whales, the captain of the vessel may decide to move in along the coastline and see what other types of marine life can be encountered. This could include Dusky and Hector Dolphins and the New Zealand Fur Seal.

Kaikōura is also home to around 75% of the world’s pelagic sea bird species which include Wandering and Royal Albatross, Mollymawk Albatross, Petrels, Shearwaters, Prions, Fulmars, Gannets, Terns and Herons.

Throughout your tour there is an onboard visual presentation, “World of the Whales” – an experience that takes passengers “virtually” to the bottom of the Kaikōura undersea canyon. The presentation also provides information for a variety of marine life found in Kaikōura waters.

Designed specially for whale watching, the modern catamarans are equipped with engines that minimise underwater noise and toilets that never pollute the sea. The main passenger cabin is enclosed and large outside decks offer great viewing and photo opportunities. Passenger numbers for each tour are kept well below vessel carrying capacity to ensure your tour experience remains a personal one.

Hapuku Kitchen:

At its heart, Hapuku Kitchen is focused on reconnecting the kitchen to the land and sea, celebrating the abundant larder nature has to offer - taking inspiration from the wild Kaikōura landscape. You are hosted in the home of Fiona & Chris Read, located between the soaring peaks of the Kaikōura mountains and the wild Pacific coast of Aotearoa New Zealand, for a culinary adventure that celebrates the season.

The Hapuku Kitchen Seasonal Feast is an ever-changing half day experience, focused on uncomplicated and utterly delicious dishes made from ingredients sourced from the gardens and local producers.

The day begins with an introduction to the kitchen and the menu for the day.  This is discussed over a cup of locally roasted coffee or a refreshing drink made from herbs and flowers from the garden.  You’ll then embark on a wander around the Hapuku Kitchen property, foraging in the garden for fruit, vegetables and herbs.

Once you have completed the harvest, return to the kitchen and as a group, prepare the various dishes that make up the menu.  With help always at hand, you will learn many techniques and tricks on the creation of the dishes of the day.

To finish the day, simply relax and enjoy the feast accompanied with wine or beer from some of Fiona’s favourite Canterbury and Marlborough winemakers and brewers.  Delicious home-made non-alcoholic beverages are also available, such as sparkling elderflower and cucumber.

The Hapuku Kitchen Experience is an ever-changing feast, focused on using traditional cooking techniques such as fire and fermentation, which follows and celebrates the seasons. To ensure you’ll be cooking with only the freshest produce available, the menu is created the day prior, after Fiona has wandered through the garden.

The day begins with an introduction to the kitchen and the menu for the day. This is discussed over a cup of locally roasted coffee or a refreshing drink made from herbs and flowers from the garden. You’ll then embark on a journey around the Hapuku Kitchen property, foraging in the garden for fruit, vegetables and herbs. The extensive tour provides plenty of opportunity to discuss Hapuku Kitchen’s gardening philosophy with Fiona and her passion for ensuring the provenance of all the produce used. You’ll also have the chance to roll up your sleeves and plant something. Depending on the season this might involve sowing some seeds or planting vegetable seedlings, shrubs or possibly even a tree.

Once you have completed the harvest, collected the eggs, and fed the pigs and cows, you’ll return to the kitchen and as a group, prepare the various dishes that make up the menu.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

We think everyone should jump out of a plane at least once in their lives. It's hard to describe the feeling, but you can imagine it, hanging out the side of a plane, attached to a highly experienced instructor and then simply falling away from the plane at up to 200kph. A truly bucket list experience.

It takes a certain kind of person to jump from an aircraft at 15,000ft into thin air. It takes courage.

Expect sensory overload as your mind, body and soul fight against every natural self-preserving urge. The challenge is immense. Harnessed by space age materials to a qualified Jumpmaster, you step out of that aircraft door and for up to  60 seconds freefall at 200 kph - terminal velocity!

After a 15 minute scenic flight to altitude, you will nudge towards the edge of the plane before being thrown out! Keep your head up, smile at your skydive photographer and take in the stunning surroundings. After an exhilarating freefall, you will experience a 4-5 minute parachute ride, floating safely back down to the skydive drop zone.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

Spending some time with the friendly & professional NZONE Skydive crew at their base was a good way for the Chuffed team to relax before taking the leap! It was easy to see why these guys are New Zealand's only tandem skydiving company to have won New Zealand's supreme tourism award.

Our destination, approximately one hour by boat, is Whekenui Bay on Arapawa Island, a small island of 75km² (29 square miles) flanked by Queen Charlotte Sound, Tory Channel and the Cook Strait. On arrival you will be greeted by Mike and Antonia Radon, the owners of Arapawa Seafarms, where the unique Blue Pearl or Paua Pearls are grown. They will personally guide you on a tour of the farm, which is not only a place of work but also their home. Discover how the Blue Pearl came to be and see how they are produced. Depending on the time of year, it’s possible to see paua of all sizes, from dust-specs in a larval rearing tank to full size paua with pearl inserts. Don’t miss this opportunity to glimpse a unique part of New Zealand marine life and spend time with experts in the paua industry. Tours takes approximately 1 hour.

Once you have finished your tour venture up to the Radon homestead, where you will be served light refreshments before heading back to Picton. Take the time to view the rare and exclusive pearls in custom made jewellery, the only place in the world where you can buy these unique pearls.

Experience Provider: Milford Flights

Experience Milford Sound by air on this scenic flight from Queenstown. Fly above the rugged backcountry of Central Otago, before heading westward to where the glacial-fed rivers empty into Lake Wakatipu. As you cross over into the Fiordland National Park, you’ll discover an untouched world of peaks and valleys, where mountains reach into the sea – a landscape forged by the rapid retreat of glaciers.

Soaring above Milford Sound you’ll get an aerial perspective of cascading waterfalls hidden amongst towering peaks, and the icy blue channel that flows into the Tasman Sea. From the luxuriant mosses and ferns clinging to sheer rock faces to immense peaks rising straight from the ocean depths, the entire experience is truly awe-inspiring.

Fly across the mountain ranges and beech forests of the Southern Alps, above the famous Milford Track and over the Sutherland Falls before you reach the striking Lake Wakatipu and land at Queenstown Airport, rated one of the world’s most scenic landings.

New Zealand’s highest guided horse trek! Plenty of cantering on nice forward moving fun horses and a stop-over for photos at the hitching rail high up the mountain, an even more exclusive alpine equine experience! Allow a good 2.5 hours for this high speed ride.

The lovely team of trekking horses at the Cardrona are waiting to take you on an unforgettable journey into the mountains. They have been handpicked for their kind and gentle temperament and behaviour both on the ground and under saddle. There are a selection of ages, heights and “horsanalities” across the herd to cater for riders of differing weights and riding experience levels.

There is a one-on-one riding lesson with each rider before the trek departs to ensure riders are confident with how to steer and stop, although your hosts do encourage the more humane “loose rein” style of riding so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery!
