Take the unique Nile River Rainforest train into the Paparoa National Park and explore the Te Ananui Glowworm Cave
Click to find out moreExperience one of New Zealand’s (if not the world’s) best GlowWorm displays, deep in the Paparoa National Park, near Punakaiki New Zealand. You will journey right into the heart of the West Coast rainforest, exploring the beautiful unmodified Metro Cave System, viewing an ancient "wonderland" of stalactites and stalagmites & gazing at its incredible glowing underground dwellers.
The tour starts with taking the Nile River Rainforest Train into the lush forests of the Paparoa National Park. The Nile River Rainforest Train is a short interpretative train journey through primeval rain forest whilst seated in small open sided carriages. It’s then just a short walk to the Metro / Te Ananui Cave, climbing high above the river to the cave entrance.
Leaving daylight behind you will explore as the first cavers did: with only the light you bring, and not a a handrail or boardwalk to be seen! It’s truly one of the few natural and “real” guided cave experiences left: seeing, feeling and getting close to an ancient wonderland sculpted by water and decorated with fragile calcite formations.
Underground you will visit such famous formations as The Altar, the highly decorated ‘Hall of Refugees’, Pancake Corner and more, before you emerge back to daylight at the awe-inspiring Main Entrance of the Metro / Te Ananui – having journeyed right through the mountain!
Then you’ll head back to find the stars of the show: Arachnocampa luminosa: the New Zealand GlowWorm. One becomes ten, then a hundred, then thousands. Before your eyes, entire galaxies of GlowWorms appear, spanning the ceiling over your head, following the streamway into the distance. Your guides will enrich your journey with captivating illustrations, explanations and stories connecting you with this special place.
This is an unique journey that takes you into one of the few publicly accessible cave systems that remain in its state of natural, unspoiled beauty. It’s a simply stunning Eco-tour in a very special place.
One of New Zealand’s famed attractions, join a whale watching tour off the Kaikoura Peninsula with a 95% chance of spotting a whale.
Click to find out moreWhale Watch is New Zealand's only vessel based whale watching company offering an exciting up-close encounter with the world's largest toothed predator the Giant Sperm Whale. See the whales in their natural environment at all times of the year, boasting a 95% success rate!
The main focus of your tour is to locate and view the Giant Sperm Whale. Whale Watch average between 1 to 2 whale sightings per tour due to the length of time the whales can stay submerged. The whales form loose pods, keeping several miles between each other, so viewing any more than 1 to 2 whales per trip is a real bonus.
Around 80% of the world’s whale and dolphin species migrate past our coastline so at any given time there is the opportunity for other species of marine mammals to be sighted such as Blue, Fin, Sei, Humpback, Minke, Pilot, Orca and Southern Right Whales, Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Southern Right Whale Dolphins, Elephant Seals and Leopard Seals.
Depending on the amount of time available after viewing the Sperm Whales, the captain of the vessel may decide to move in along the coastline and see what other types of marine life can be encountered. This could include Dusky and Hector Dolphins and the New Zealand Fur Seal.
Kaikōura is also home to around 75% of the world’s pelagic sea bird species which include Wandering and Royal Albatross, Mollymawk Albatross, Petrels, Shearwaters, Prions, Fulmars, Gannets, Terns and Herons.
Throughout your tour there is an onboard visual presentation, “World of the Whales” – an experience that takes passengers “virtually” to the bottom of the Kaikōura undersea canyon. The presentation also provides information for a variety of marine life found in Kaikōura waters.
Designed specially for whale watching, the modern catamarans are equipped with engines that minimise underwater noise and toilets that never pollute the sea. The main passenger cabin is enclosed and large outside decks offer great viewing and photo opportunities. Passenger numbers for each tour are kept well below vessel carrying capacity to ensure your tour experience remains a personal one.

Raft the Wairoa River on a grade 5 rafting trip reputed to have some of the best whitewater action in New Zealand.
Click to find out moreExperience the thrill of one of New Zealand's best whitewater rafting trips on the Wairoa River near Tauranga - it's the ultimate full on grade 5 rafting trip.
The Waiora River, which flows out of the Kaimai Ranges into the Bay of Plenty, is a whitewater mecca. In the 1970's the river was earmarked for hydro electricity and the river was dammed. But due to the intense opposition by the Kaimai Canoe Club a compromise was arrived and the dam would release water 26 days a year to bring the river back to it's white water mecca status. So, on 26 Sundays a year this occurs and the rafting is nothing short of grade 5 epic-ness.
This is one of the most technical commercial rafting trips in the country so is not recommended for non swimmers and is graded grade 5.
This fantastic rafting adventure offers a stunning rock and tree lined gorge that combines turbulent rapids with exciting drops to produce top whitewater action. There's no better way to experience New Zealand rivers than this epic rafting adventure.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?
Rotorua Canopy Tours was started in 2008 by two pioneering Kiwi mates who had a vision of delivering a mind blowing forest experience using a series of ziplines, swing bridges & elevated platforms - and this experience was recently ranked the #1 Nature activity IN THE WORLD by Tripadvisor! Praise doesn't get much higher than that. Not only is this a beautiful & thrilling forest experience, it is also environmentally responsible & educational.
The team who started Chuffed did so after working as near neighbors to the ZORB team, at Rotorua Canopy Tours. After years of working closely with the ZORB team, seeing first hand their amazing experiences & fun & professional customer service style, it was a no brainer for us to bring ZORB on as one of our first partner businesses!

Click to find out moreTripAdvisor declared Rotorua Canopy Tour's Ultimate Experience the 11th best experience in the world in 2021. That's pretty high praise!
You need to allow yourself 3.5 hours to experience this activity which is surprisingly suitable for almost everyone.
After meeting at their base on the outskirts of Rotorua where you meet you guides who ooze professionalism and fun times, you'll be transported up to a magical forest that appears to have been lost in time. You'll immediately be struck with how you feel as you are transported to another world full of amazing trees, ferns, smells and noise.
Perhaps the most impressive feat by the team at Canopy Tours is over the past 10 years they have removed all the possums and rats from this once unloved and forgotten slice of New Zealand forest and restored it to a pest free environment - so much so that you can spot many bird species and in an amazing highlight of the experience, even handfeed wild robins.
The experience consists of 6 ziplines for a total of 1.2 kilometres. They vary from shooting you through tight gaps in the forest layer to giant swooping flights through deep forested valleys. There is even a 400 metre tandem line so you can race you partner... but this tour is so much more than an adrenaline rush.
In addition there are a number of suspended bridges that span wide valleys, floating staircases and one of the highlights - the 50 metre high cliff walk - that appears seemingly out of no where as you arrive perched high on it after a zipline flight out of the forest canopy.
It's a truly special experience, suitable for anyone with a okay level of fitness. It operates in all weather but does suspend operations when high winds exist.
Please note there are risks associated with this experience which you will need to familiarise yourself with and acknowledge at the time of booking. Read more at https://www.canopytours.co.nz/safety/
