Under The Stars offers the only award winning nomadic astronomy tours in the Wairarapa, providing private stargazing sessions at Stonehenge Aotearoa. If you are looking for an intimate & unique experience, look no further!
Under the Stars have teamed up to offer you private tours onsite at Stonehenge Aotearoa from Wednesdays – Sundays. The experience includes a 45 minute self-guided tour around the Stonehenge before stargazing begins. Allow 2 hours for the self-guided tour and stargazing, start time is 8pm all year round.
Everything you need for a night of stargazing is supplied: a huge portable telescope, binoculars, star charts and blankets to keep you warm as you look up. Your guide will explain what you can see, stars and constellations and the stories and science they can tell us. Depending on what objects are up that night, take a closer look at the Moon, planets (if they are in the sky) and some nearby deep sky objects like nebulae, clusters and galaxies.
You’ll learn how they use star maps to help navigate the sky, hear the science and stories about what you can see and use telescopes and binoculars to have a good look around.
The Moon, planets, stars and constellations differ over the year so every night brings a different view & experience.
Why is this Chuffed Worthy?
People with a passion they want to share with others are the backbone of New Zealand’s visitor experience economy. Under the Stars is a perfect example of this. Owner/operator Becky started her business in 2018 when she moved her family to Wairarapa to be under the Dark Skies. She has a background in space outreach & teaching, and when not taking or arrangeing Astronomy tours, Becky is a strong advocate for the establishment of Wairarapa as a certified Dark Sky Reserve.
