Experience Provider: Fullers 360 and All Blacks Experience

Experience two great Auckland activities with the legendary All Blacks Experience and explore the volcanic icon of Auckland, Rangitoto Island with a return ferry.

The All Blacks Experience

Opened in 2019, this experience is based at at the Sky City Precinct in Auckland and is designed to give you the most in-depth appreciation of what it is like to be a New Zealand All Black.

The experience itself is a 90 minute state-of the art guided encounter that showcases the All Blacks through the latest innovation and technology. This full sensory and interactive experience allows New Zealanders to celebrate and understand New Zealand’s rugby heritage, achievements and culture.

We thought the best way to highlight the best parts of the experience was to take the words of  Ed Burak, the All Blacks Experience designer as to what her thought the top  highlights are for visitors:

  1. The Haka – take in the full force of the Haka through a 4 metre high screen experience that draws you in from the first moment. As close as you will come to facing the real thing.
  2. Test your rugby skills – In a hands on interactive zone you’ll be able to match your kicking, passing, lineout and accuracy skills against those of actual All Blacks – and discover where your talents truly lie.
  3. New Zealand’s Rugby Story – you’ll immerse yourself in the history, culture and people that have made the All Blacks such an icon in New Zealand and the world
  4. Legends of the Game – Hear directly from past and present legends of the game and discover their stories, moments and matches.
  5. Performing under pressure – through the use of technology and innovation you will get insights and direction from coaches and players to understand what it is like to perform under pressure in a high performance team
  6. Black Ferns, Maori All Blacks and All Blacks Sevens – this experience is not just about the All Blacks – but a homage to all those that wear the black jersey and represent New Zealand with dignity, strength and skill to be the best of the best.

Rangitoto Island Return Ferry

Sail out to one of the most iconic landmarks in the Hauraki Gulf - Rangitoto Island, and spend the day exploring.

Rangitoto erupted from the sea approximately 600 years ago in a series of dramatic explosions. Two episodes 10 to 50 years apart are thought to have lasted for several years each. This makes Rangitoto the youngest island in the Hauraki Gulf and the last and largest volcano to be formed in the Auckland volcanic field.

Exploring Rangitoto is a fantastic day adventure. A gentle climb through lava fields will lead you to the summit in approximately one hour. Allow extra time to explore the lava caves on the way back, or see the historic bach community near the wharf.

Ferry takes approximately 25 minutes from downtown Auckland.

Experience a mysterious underground world with a guided cave tour past the rushing water of an underground stream before drifting in silent darkness beneath the luminous shimmer of hundreds of glowworms.

Your trip to the Te Anau Glowworm Caves begins with a cruise to the western shores of Lake Te Anau on purpose-built scenic cruise vessels.

At the entry to the caves at Cavern House, view the informative displays and learn about this geological wonder before you join your guide underground. On the tour of the caves, your friendly guides will point out the highlights and share their knowledge of the caves and its history.

This underground world is astonishingly beautiful. By geological standards, the caves are very young (12,000 years) and are still being carved out by the force of the river that flows through them. The result is a twisting network of limestone passages filled with sculpted rock, whirlpools and a roaring underground waterfall.

Deep inside the caves, beyond the roar of the water, you will be taken by small boat into a silent hidden grotto inhabited by hundreds of glowworms, unique to New Zealand. In the subterranean darkness, they produce a glittering display that is nothing short of extraordinary.

The island is home to weka (native woodhen), bush robins, rare saddlebacks and yellowheads amongst other species. It is also a protected habitat for some of New Zealand’s rarest plant species. A regular highlight is to encounter an inquisitive weka on the beach.

For the remainder of the cruise around Paterson Inlet, relax on board our modern catamaran and enjoy the coastal scenery before heading back to base.

Ulva Island/Te Wharawhara

The island sanctuary is located within Paterson Inlet (Whaka a Te Wera) and offers the opportunity to view rarer native species including weka, kākā, kākāriki, tūī, bellbirds (korimako), pigeons (kereru), fantails (piwakawaka), tomtit (miromiro) and brown creeper (pīpipi).

The saddleback (tieke), yellowhead (mohua), Stewart Island robin (toutouwai) and rifleman (titipounamu) have all been successfully reintroduced to Ulva Island. Some lucky visitors to the sanctuary have also seen the Stewart Island brown kiwi (tokoeka) during the day.

Ulva Island is part of the Rakiura National Park and covers an approximate 269 hectares which are mostly managed by the Department of Conservation.

The island, which has no permanent human population, is supported by the Ulva Island Charitable Trust, a group of Stewart Islanders, who raise funds for research, maintain the tracks and infrastructure, and help with bird releases.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

We love this business. This is an exemplar  of how, when done well tourism is such a powerful force. Pohutu Penguins is a family run business with a long standing history of protecting the Little Penguin in Pohatu Bay. When Shireen and Francis Helps first started their penguin conservation work the penguins faced massive challenges via predation by rats, cats, ferrets and stoats. The colonies around Bank's Peninsula were disappearing at an alarming rate.

Through predator trapping, monitoring, rehabilitation and creating awareness the Pohutu Colony stabilized and has now grown into the largest colony of Little Penguins  on mainland New Zealand. Today, the conservation work continues, and the tourism business has created jobs, raises marine conservation awareness and in short is simply a fantastic story!

Included: Bike hire or e-bike hire, pannier bag, helmet, maps and instructions, return shuttle from Te Awanga

Not included: Wine tasting charges

Additional option is available to be picked up from your accommodation. This is $10 additional and can be reserved at your time of booking.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

The cycle trail network through the Hawke's Bay is outstanding and if you have done it yet, don't wait. It's leisurely, relaxed and short distances between points of interest. James from Chuffed did this in 2021 with his family and said we need to find a way to facilitate this for Chuffed customers. So we started working with Takaro Trails and they have been outstanding to our customers. So we are very pleased indeed with how this option is working out for Chuffed Gift recipients.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy:

And as for the trails there are so many recommendations and highlights. Most popular seems to be winery visits for lazy lunches, but equally there are so many beautiful spots for picnics or just a great day out riding and enjoying the expanse of the Hawke's Bay.

Experience Provider: Beachcomber Cruises

Your adventure will begin as you cruise north from Picton on a boat through the drowned river valleys of the Queen Charlotte Sound and past idyllic bays. As you head towards Ship Cove the skipper will talk about the history, geology, flora and fauna of the area and – if there is time- you'll get closer to any passing wildlife, including dolphins who like to play in the wake of the boat.

In the 1770s, sheltered Ship Cove provided safe anchorage, food, water and timber for explorer Captain James Cook and his ship crews on five separate occasions and saw some of the earliest sustained contact between Maori and Europeans.

There is plenty of historical information at Ship Cove before you climb away from the beach through native forest regenerating beneath a high canopy of trees. The forest includes manuka, kanuka, five finger and tree ferns and is home to many native New Zealand bird species: tui, fantails, silvereyes and tomtits. If you stop for a break, a curious weka may come to check you out.

When you reach Tawa Saddle, stunning views of the Queen Charlotte Sound spread out before you. The track then drops into Resolution Bay and follows an old bridle path into Endeavour Inlet.

Furneaux Lodge at the head of the Endeavor Inlet is your destination. Here you can buy drinks and meals and relax before boarding your cruise vessel at approximately 4-4.30pm for your return to Picton. Arriving back at approximately 5.30-6pm.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

Beachcomber Cruises exemplify everything we look for in a partner business! Family owned & operated, with three generations of family often seen at the office at a time. Mind you, walking into their office on the Picton waterfront, you would be forgiven for thinking the whole team are family, such is the strength of the family values behind the business! Also, did we mention how stunning the backyard is? The ultimate way to see one of NZ's great 'backyards' is with Beachcomber Cruises!

Thanks to its beauty and healing properties Tikitere has been a destination for spa and nature seekers since 1871. In 1934 noted Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw, visited and cited it as inspiration to change his once atheist beliefs. In awe of the boiling mud and steam billowing into the sky, Shaw is said to have exclaimed “this could be the very gates of hell.” Upon hearing this, local Māori decided the English name for the area would become Hell’s Gate.

Hell’s Gate mud spa is a historic New Zealand experience. The healing properties of the geothermal mud and sulphur mineral water have been used by local Māori for over 800 years. Open and clean your skin by lathering it in our unique mud, before exfoliating and cleansing with a soak in the sulphur spa. Your body and soul will feel revitalised after this soothing experience.

This experience includes bathing in the world-famous mud baths, then soaking in the sulphur spas and cool plunge pool.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

Some of the Chuffed team took a visit to Hells Gate to walk through the Geothermal Reserve before trying out the Mud Bath & Sulphur Spa. We found it to be an incredibly unique & relaxing experience and were blown away by the Kaitiakitanga & Manaakitanga of the Hells Gate team.  This site is extremely significant to Maori Culture, which makes us all the more lucky to be able to experience it! Pro tip - take old swimwear or rent some on site, as the Sulpher can be tricky to get out of clothing!

Catch some waves in Raglan with a group surf lesson. This coastal town with its magnificent black sand coastline is an absolute surfing mecca. Raglan offers world-class surf breaks and some of the most consistent surf in the country. With a bit of help from your instructor you'll be riding the waves like a pro in no time.

The group lesson starts at Ngarunui Beach car park 5 minutes outside Raglan. Raglan Surf School chose to have a maximum ratio of 6 students to 1 instructor, this means they’re able to offer you plenty of personalised tips.

First, you’ll learn the basics of surfing and surfboard vocabulary, stance, posture and a proper dose of water and beach safety.

You’ll be fully prepared before you hit the surf! You’ll get  custom fitted for a wetsuit and surfboard at the iconic Red fire-truck and wooden trailer, located at Ngarunui Beach car park.

After a quick regroup on the sand you’ll have your instructor right there beside you in the surf ready to help you choose your waves, help line your board up and even push you into waves. The goal is to have you paddling into waves yourself by the end of the lesson.

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

Raglan is known globally for its iconic breaks & surf culture. Less known is that it's also home to NZ's original surf school, and barely known by anyone, Raglan Surf School were one of Chuffed's very first partner businesses! We have heard nothing but rave reviews from our customers who have surfed with these guys, so don't hesitate about this one for any reason!

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

The team who started Chuffed did so after working as near neighbors to the Zorb team, at Rotorua Canopy Tours. After years of working closely with the Zorb team, seeing first hand their amazing experiences & fun & professional customer service style, it was a no brainer for us to bring Zorb on as one of our first partner businesses! At Secret Spot, Keith, Eric & family have set up a truly epic business, with Kiwi refreshments, hospitality, and nature (literally) running through the property! The Chuffed team love a visit to Secret Spot, especially to enjoy a refreshing beverage or two after a days riding in the forest!

Nestled in a protected valley in Kuaotunu 16km north of Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula, Stargazers offers an ideal dark sky site to observe the stunning New Zealand southern night sky in all its dark sky glory with a range of optical tools.

This astronomy tour provides a comprehensive introduction to the NZ southern night sky. Commencing on a elevated stargazing observation deck you will learn to recognise several constellations and bright stars using a green laser pointer.  Then, use the walk-in Pipehenge observing frame to learn how the stars and planets move in the sky and how the great New Zealand Maori and Polynesian voyagers used them for navigation across the Pacific Ocean.

You will continue with the professional 14" Celestron CGE Pro 1400XLT telescope in the rotating 3.5m (11') astronomy dome. View a range of objects including the moon, stars, planets and galaxies depending on availability on the night of your visit. Children can operate the dome rotation during the astronomy tour to give a clear view of the NZ sky.

Back at reception you will have ample time to examine and handle several 4½ billion year old meteorites and learn about the history of the classic Spitz A2 planetarium projector currently undergoing restoration and how it is used. There are several unique hands-on displays about things astronomical, geological and scientific including 150 million year old dinosaur bones. The astronomy tour concludes with a walk through a 25m scale model of the Solar System.

A hot drink is provided while stargazing to ward off the evening chill and a detailed information pack including a sundial kit is supplied to enable you to further your astronomy interests at home!

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

On our first recruitment road trip around the Coromandel, we found Stargazers BnB just beyond the peninsulas traditional holidaymaker route. What we really found was a husband & wife passion project, so authentic & unique that it couldn't be ignored! No wonder it has proven so popular with Chuffed customers to date!

Why is this Chuffed Worthy?

James from Chuffed has visited Off Road NZ at least 20 times in the last 15 years - with his wife, visiting friends and family, groups of friends....the Go Karting never fails to impress. Part of it's charm is it's remote location on a 125 hectare farm 25 minutes drive into the hills from Rotorua.  The fun is addictive, and the competitive spirit against yourself and your friends comes to the fore. So when Chuffed was born - Off Road NZ was one of the first calls James made to see if they wanted to be a partner. And lucky for everyone they said yes.

You might want to consider adding their 4WD bush safari and monster truck experience to you visit also.
