Experience the entire Remutaka Incline from Kaitoke to the Wairarapa, then take a shuttle back to the start. Start anytime between 10am and 12pm (though the earlier you start, the more time you'll have on the trail), then bike through to Cross Creek for 2pm pickup or Featherston 2.15pm (returns approx 2.45).
Simply make your way to the base at the Kaitoke carpark (it's about a 45 minute drive from Wellington). The crew from Wildfinder will set you up with capable and comfortable electric mountain bikes, then give you a quick briefing on what to expect for the day. You'll start your adventure with a very gradual incline through beautiful native bush. Pass through tunnels (headlights provided!) and over bridges, while checking out information boards detailing the enormous task of constructing the old fell railway system. Reach the summit - a large grassy plateau perfect for a picnic or cold drink - then enjoy a fun (but easily controllable!) descent to Cross Creek for a 2pm pickup or Featherston for a 2.15pm pickup, from where the shuttle will take you back to Kaitoke.
The bikes are perfect for local trail conditions, and only use modern electric mountain bikes, complete with comfy gel seats, front suspension, and quality components. All bikes are then customised to rider height and preferences. In short, our equipment won't let you down.

Ultimate Zipline Experience

You need to allow yourself 3.5 hours to experience this activity which is surprisingly suitable for almost everyone.
After meeting at their base on the outskirts of Rotorua where you meet you guides who ooze professionalism and fun times, you'll be transported up to a magical forest that appears to have been lost in time. You'll immediately be struck with how you feel as you are transported to another world full of amazing trees, ferns, smells and noise.
Perhaps the most impressive feat by the team at Canopy Tours is over the past 10 years they have removed all the possums and rats from this once unloved and forgotten slice of New Zealand forest and restored it to a pest free environment - so much so that you can spot many bird species and in an amazing highlight of the expereince, even handfeed wild robins.
The experience consists of 6 ziplines for a total of 1.2 kilometres. They vary from shooting you through tight gaps in the forest layer to giant swooping flights through deep forested valleys. Blue Creek Canyoning Adventure
Not keen on getting too wet but love abseiling?
Apart from a couple of waist-deep pools Blue Creek is a dry canyoning trip. This stunning Kahurangi canyon is deep and narrow as it was carved into a softer type of rock over many years. In some places you can touch both walls at the same time and if you look up you’ll only see a sliver of daylight. It really feels like you’re getting absorbed by the earth. If you ask your guides nicely they might even try to keep your feet dry on this one. By the end of this trip, you’ll be an abseiling pro!

What is Canyoning?
Canyoning is one of the newer Abel Tasman activities. It is a combination of lots of fun stuff all bunched into one exciting activity. Trips normally start with a walk through beautiful scenery. Then it’s time to get the rubber suits on and start making your way down the canyon. We jump off cliffs into deep pools below, slide down water polished chutes and abseil besides or sometimes even through showering waterfalls. A full day ride exploring the enchantment of the unique countryside this part of the world has to offer. You need to be comfortable in the saddle at all gaits over all-terrain to really enjoy this.
River Valley Stables operates at some of the highest elevations of any trekking operation in New Zealand; consequently, weather conditions can change quickly. This can alter our choice of trails used on any given day.
If the weather is looking okay, then the ride will be to the top of Pukeokahu (1000 metres above sea level), what we call a hill, but many would call a mountain. Many of the trails are steep; however, the views from the top are incredible – you will just have to take our word for it and check them out yourself!
The top of Pukeokahu is an excellent place for your lunch stop on a lovely summers day.
Group size will be small, and you will need to be a competent rider. River Valley Stables guides will take special care to match you with a horse that you will enjoy. Before the ride, you will be given instruction to feel competent riding freestyle and understanding our Natural Horsemanship techniques.

Discover the Remutaka Ranges' rich rail history & natural beauty. The flagship daytrip of the Remutaka Cycle Trail, this is suitable for riders of all levels, and can be lengthened or shortened to suit you. 18/37km of easy/moderate riding.
Take advantage of a complimentary shuttle from Wellington Station to either Te Marua (for a 27-37km, slightly more challenging ride) or Kaitoke (for an 18-28km easy ride), where you start your adventure with a very gradual incline through native bush. Pass through tunnels (headlights provided!) and over bridges, while checking out information boards detailing the enormous task of constructing the old fell railway system. Reach the summit - a large grassy plateau perfect for a picnic or cold drink - then enjoy a fun (but easily controllable!) descent to Cross Creek in the Wairarapa, surrounded by some of NZ's most scenic farmland. Your tour starts with a 4km ride in one of our 4-wheel drive vehicles, passing through pristine native forest while the guides entertain you with facts about the park’s diverse native environment, cultural aspects and fun stories.
The Skywire is set 300m above the base café and has incredible views of Cable and Delaware Bays, the western ranges and north towards D’urville island. On a clear day you can even see the snow-capped peak of Mount Taranaki.
Strapped securely into the ride with 5-point harnesses, the Skywire seats up to four “flyers” at a time, with around 1000m of gravity assisted free-wheeling, reaching speeds of up to 100 kph, followed by 600m at a more leisurely pace - ideal for taking in the incredible scenery. With over 30 Grade 2 (easy) rapids, a side hike to a spectacular waterfall and a riverside lunch, this 13 km section of the Rangitikei River is perfect for all ages.
If you're not up for full on white water rafting action, this scenic trip, with enough rapids to make it interesting and exciting might just be the ticket for you.
This is a rafting trip that is super safe, scenic, interesting, and FUN!
On the way down, immense cliffs cradle the river canyon. It is in one of these sections that you stop and have a picnic lunch. From there it is a relaxing float out to the take out, followed by a scenic drive back to River Valley Lodge where you began.
The guides will ensure that you are equipped with appropriate equipment, both to keep you warm, and to keep you out of harm.
Depending on the day this could include, wetsuits or specially designed bib style splash pants, neoprene boots and lifejackets. Helmets are always worn.
Total time on the actual river depends on flow, but is generally between 3 and a half to 4 hours. You will stop for lunch along the way. Please allow for a full day, with a meeting time of 9.30am at River Valley Lodge.

One of the first things that comes to mind when you say bucket list - a Skydive! Take on this epic 12,000 Foot skydive over the stunning Tauranga area with views (if you're looking!) north up the Coromandel Peninsula, east as far as White Island, Mt Maunganui and Tauranga Harbour. As you get higher on the 25 minute scenic flight to your jumping altitude you'll even see as far as the Rotorua Lakes, Mt Ruapehu and Mt Taranaki.
There is 40 seconds of freefall when you jump from as high as 12,000 feet. The Team at Skydive Tauranga are an experienced and professional team and a constant sight in the air above Tauranga.
