Seeing Kiwi in their natural habitat is an experience not to be missed. Kapiti Island is home to over 1,200 Little Spotted Kiwi (LSK), making it the most prolific population of LS Kiwi to be found, and one of the most reliable opportunities to see them in the wild.

This overnight package gives you 2 full days on the island. You’ll spend your first day at Rangatira in the middle of the island, with the chance to climb Kapiti’s highest peak, or explore the lower tracks through established New Zealand forest. We can arrange a packed lunch for you if requested in advance, otherwise you’ll need to bring a packed lunch and drink for your 1st day.

In the afternoon you’ll be transported to Waiorua Bay at the North End, where you’ll spend the night at the lodge. You’ll be treated to local beer and wine, and a delicious home cooked meal before heading out after dark on a guided Kiwi spotting walk.

Staying in a Luxurious Glamping Tent, you’ll fall asleep to the sound of calling Kiwi and Weka, Kaka and Ruru. A hot breakfast and fresh coffee will help you experience the world come alive as you watch the sunrise over Waiorua Bay, on one of the oldest sanctuaries in the world.

You’ll spend your second day exploring the North End tracks, with a coastal or hill walk available. After a hot lunch at the lodge, you’ll depart Kapiti in the afternoon of day 2.

Why sleep in a hotel when you can spend the night in a world-class bird sanctuary? Kapiti Island is more than a bed for the night, it’s a chance to surround yourself with nature and enjoy genuine Māori hospitality.
