This experience gives you & a friend access to the Knights of the Sky’ and the Dangerous Skies’ exhibits at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Center.
Knights of the Sky features Sir Peter Jackson’s collection of WW1 aircraft and artefacts, and in true Peter Jackson fashion, thousands of hours have gone into the displays around each aircraft, many of which depict events that took place during the war. Visit Sir Peter Jackson’s Knights of the Sky Exhibition and travel to a time when the harshness and cruelty of the war in the trenches contrasted with the chivalry and bravado of the war in the air.
Dangerous Skies is a display of WW2 craft, with some infamous warbirds on display, again in cinematic quality scenes, including an impression Lockheed Hudson plane accurately recreated to appear crashed in the depths of a jungle, as the plane was during the war! Like World War One’s Knights of the Sky, Dangerous Skies features mannequins made by Weta Workshop, and original, flyable static aircraft in larger-than-life dioramas, capturing specific snapshots in history.
This is an incredible experience for Aviation Buffs and non Buffs alike!
Why is it Chuffed Worthy?
We paid a visit to the Omaka Aviation Heritage Museum and were lucky enough to be guided through these two incredible exhibits. It is fair to say the aircraft & displays are on par or above some of the famous museum exhibits that Weta Workshop have had involvement in, but possibly on a far less known scale. If you want to see this mastery without the crowds, this is a great option!
